Review Of Writing App Ulysses

Nov 30th, 2015

Nice write-up of writing app Ulysses over on The Sweet Setup:

Seeing that green circle appear is much more rewarding (to me, at least) than a word count. This may seem trivial, but I can’t count how many times I’ve seen the progress circle and said “I’ve only got X more words to go and I’m on a roll — let’s just push through and finish this!” Personally, I’ve found that the Goals feature in Ulysses gives me a little bit more motivation to push through and finish my writing projects, and that has been invaluable to me and helped me get things from “In Progress” to “Done.”

Sounds good. Love thoughtful touches like this but it probably won't be enough to tear me away from my current fave iAWriter.[^dramcircle] Though I poo-poo'd iAWriter a bit back, I have since grown fond of its simple interface. Ulysses dirties my Dropbox with .plist files in order to accumulate its pages feature.

I write almost everything on my iPhone through a combination of Drafts and Editorial. Nothing else beats them. The first to make a Mac app will make these contenders irrelevant.

[^dramcircle]: I would love the same kind of progress indicator in Dramatica when narrowing down storyforms
